Installing my PackshotCreator studio

How do I install my PackshotCreator studio? (please refer to the QuickStart Guide)

Follow these steps in order to properly set up your studio:

  • Install the four fluorescent lamps.
  • Place the digital camera inside the camera housing. Connect one end of the USB cable to the camera and the other to the USB connector located next to the camera housing. Connect one end of the power adapter to the camera and the other to the universal power socket located inside the camera housing.
  • Install the PackshotCreator software.
  • Plug the lightbox into a power outlet.
  • Plug the two (2) USB cables from the lightbox to the two (2) USB ports on your PC.
  • Make sure that the lightbox switch is in the “PC-Controlled” position (the switch is located on the side of the lightbox, at the top).
  • Launch the software and open the camera when prompted.

Note: The digital camera does not require a memory card or batteries while connected to PackshotCreator.

Where can I find the product serial number?

The product serial number begins with the letters S/N followed by a series of numbers and is located on the software cover and on the back of the lightbox (top left corner).

When I launch the PackshotCreator software, the lamps do not light up.

If the lamps inside your lightbox do not light up, it is most likely they were not properly installed.

Make sure each lamp is properly positioned in its respective compartment: re-insert them, and then gently turn each one until you hear a click. To see if the lamps work, simply turn the switch on the back (or side) of the lightbox to the “Lamps On” position. If the lamps still do not work, try replacing them with one or both spares that come with PackshotCreator.

Also make sure the two (2) USB cables on the back of the lightbox are properly connected to your PC.

Note: All lamps need to work in order for the lightbox to function.

After I launch the PackshotCreator software, the lamps light up, but I get an error message saying that the camera cannot be found.

If an error message appears indicating that the camera cannot be found, check the following:

  • Make sure the USB cable and the power adapter are properly connected between the camera and its housing.
  • Make sure the two (2) USB cables in back of the lightbox are properly connected to your PC
  • If you are using a Canon PowerShot Series A camera (like the A620), make sure it is in “Play” mode. Please refer to your camera’s manual for more information.
  • The problem may be the power adapter itself: disconnect it completely from the camera and its housing. Charge the battery, place it in the camera, then restart the software to see if the camera works.

When I launch the PackshotCreator software, the lamps light up, but I get an error message saying that the lightbox cannot be found.

If you get an error message saying that the lightbox cannot be found, check the following:

  • Make sure the two (2) USB cables in back of the lightbox are properly connected to your PC.
  • Make sure the lightbox is in “PC-Controlled” position (check the position of the switch in back)
  • Also make sure the USB cables aren’t stretched too tightly between your computer and the lightbox.
  • If the problem persists, try connecting the USB cables from the lightbox to other USB ports on your computer. Too many peripheral devices (printers, scanners, etc.) connected to your computer in USB mode can cause transmission problems: remove one or two USB cables and try re-plugging them in different ports.
  • Make sure you are not using USB 1: PackshotCreator only works with USB 2.

While installing the PackshotCreator software on Windows 2000, I get a window asking me to install the digital camera drivers.

If this happens, simply insert the CD-ROM that came with your camera and follow the instructions on screen.

When I try to launch the software, the application opens and then immediately shuts down.

You do not have the proper permissions to use the program. You can fix this by right clicking the PackshotCreator/PackshotSpin icon, and then selecting the “Run as Administrator” option.
